Anas Kishmaria congratulated Russian Ambassador to Abkhazia Mikhail Shurgalin on Russia Day
12 June 2023
The adoption of the Declaration of National Sovereignty by the First Congress of Peoples Deputies of the RSFSR on June 12, 1990 became the starting point of the modern history of modern Russia. The events that followed this act led to a profound transformation of the single socio-economic and political space united under the flag of the USSR, which resulted in the emergence of new states in the so-called post-Soviet space.
The modern Russian Federation became the legal successor of the USSR, and in the first years of its existence in a new capacity, Russia faced difficult problems caused by centrifugal turbulence due to the collapse of a huge country. We can say that the echoes of those events are at the heart of many challenges facing both Russia and its neighbors.
Our young state, the Republic of Abkhazia, has gone through a difficult path of struggle for freedom and independence – from the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty in August 1990, the defense of this freedom and independence in the Georgian-Abkhazian War of 1992-1993, the adoption of the Constitution in November 1994, the official recognition of the independence of Abkhazia by the Russian Federation in August 2008 and to our days. All this time, the ties between the multinational people of Abkhazia and Russia have not been lost. The friendship of our people, cultural and spiritual ties are now enshrined in a variety of interstate agreements regulating almost all spheres of relations, which are dynamically developing and strengthening. The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Abkhazia has been successfully engaged in this work since its opening. On this day, I would like to wish the Russian Federation and all Russians peace and prosperity, success and victories, great achievements worthy of a great country and a great people! Happy holidays! Happy Russia Day!
