October 9 The IX meeting of the Eurasian Alliance of Ombudsmen was held in Moscow
On October 9 the IX meeting of the Eurasian Alliance of Ombudsmen was held in Moscow, dedicated to the protection of human rights in the context of the digitalization of society.
The event was attended by permanent members of the EAO - ombudsmen of Armenia, Bahrain, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. Human rights commissioners of Belarus, Turkey and other states participated as observers.
The meeting raised such issues as: what digital rights are, how traditional rights are implemented in the digital environment, what additional guarantees are needed to protect honor and dignity, the right to life and health, recommendations were given to government bodies to develop mechanisms for the implementation of these guarantees.
Commissioner Anas Kishmaria noted that digitalization significantly simplifies the life of a modern person and at the same time creates new threats. "We are faced with challenges, new types and forms of crimes, dangerous games are increasingly appearing in the digital environment, many of which end in suicide, cybercrimes are spreading in the economic sphere and new methods of distributing drugs are emerging." The activities of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Abkhazia provide for the possibility of considering applications received by filling out applications on the website or sent by e-mail. Abkhazia is at the initial stage of developing legislation in the field of digitalization and digital literacy. The experience voiced at today's event will be useful for the formation of mechanisms for the protection of human rights in the digital environment.
