Detentions of Abkhazian citizens at the Abkhaz-Russian border
On January 30, the Ombudsperson for Human Rights in the Republic of Abkhazia was
approached on condition of anonymity by several citizens of Abkhazia with a request to evaluate
the information about the detentions of citizens of Abkhazia on the Abkhaz-Russian border for a
period longer than required to pass the border control. A. Kishmaria assured of maintaining
anonymity and notified them that currently she has the information on one case of the Abkhaz
citizen’s detention who sent a letter to the Chairman of the State Security Service of the Republic
of Abkhazia dated January 16, 2024. The Ombudsperson informed the citizens who contacted
her that, in turn, she sent a request to the Chairman of the State Security Service of the Republic

of Abkhazia on Thursday, January 25 to get the clarification of the accident, as well as the
information about similar cases disseminated on the Internet. At the same time A. Kishmaria
noted that media representatives did not contact her on this issue.
