Asida Shakryl was approved for the position of Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Abkhazia.

The MPs had to make their choice of two candidates - an employee of the "Center for Humanitarian Programs" NGO Asida Shakryl and an employee of the RA President's Administration Odyssey Bigvava.

23 MPs voted for Shakryl's candidacy, five were against, and two ballots were declared invalid.

Four deputies voted for the election of Odyssey Bigvava as an Ombudsman, 24 against, two ballots were declared invalid.

Asida Shakryl took the oath: "I swear to protect human and civil rights and freedoms, to fulfill my duties honestly, impartially and conscientiously, guided by the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Abkhazia.”

Asida Georgievna Shakryl was born on October 11, 1966, in the village of Lykhny, Gudauta district of Abkhazia.

In 1983 she graduated from the Sukhum boarding school. In 1985 she entered the Faculty of Philology of the Abkhaz State University, which she successfully graduated from in 1990. In the same year, she began working as a teacher of the Russian language and literature at the Sukhum boarding school and later as a head of the educational department of the Sukhum boarding school. 

In 1997, she began her work at the non-profit organization "Center for Humanitarian Programs" (CHP) where she led the program "Search for Missing Persons in connection with the Georgian-Abkhaz War.” She visited families where people were reported missing, collected a considerable amount of factual material, which enabled her to add dozens of new names to the official lists of the missing. From her first years in CHP, she dealt with problems related to human rights violations, including the rights of the detained persons. As part of the project, the CHP managed to replace all the windows in the prison building in Dranda, and then open computer literacy courses, connect other NGOs to this work. 

After 2001, she joined a program designed for educating young leaders in the field of human rights. For several years, together with her colleagues, she was preparing a manual on civic education, which was recommended by the RA Ministry of Education as a guide for social studies in secondary schools. 

From 2006 to 2009, Asida Shakryl was working as a coordinator for the project "Promotion of civil initiatives aimed at strengthening human security", where she participated in the study of the effectiveness of courts and other institutions in the field of human rights protection. As a result of the work done in 2008, the brochure “Judicial protection of the rights and freedoms of the individual in the Republic of Abkhazia: problematic issues” was published, which was highly appreciated by lawyers of various profiles.

From 2011 to 2016 she was a member of the Public Chamber under the President of the Republic of Abkhazia.

From 2007 onwards – a member of the leaderboard at the CHP, supervising the work in the field of human rights protection. Was engaged in human rights activities within the framework of free public reception centers.

During her work in the human rights sector, Asida Shakryl completed a number of specialized trainings, participated in numerous conferences and forums in Abkhazia, Russian Federation, and countries of Europe.
