Today, on April 24, an extended meeting of the Committee of the People's Assembly - Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia on state and legal policy was held by its chairman Daut Khutaba.
The meeting was attended by: the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Abkhazia Anas Kishmaria, the Representative of the President of the Republic of Abkhazia in Parliament Batal Aiba and the representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Abkhazia.

The meeting participants reviewed the draft law “On Amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Abkhazia” which is aimed at improving a number of norms of the criminal legislation of the Republic of Abkhazia, providing for the establishment of criminal penalties for insult, including toughening the penalties. Criminal liability in accordance with the draft law also applies to insults committed publicly using information and telecommunications networks, including the Internet. This bill is an alternative to the draft law “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Abkhazia” previously considered by the Committee.
Based on the results of the consideration of the Draft Law, the deputies decided not to recommend it for consideration at the Parliamentary session.
